Steven Spielberg’s first foray into high-definition DVD will be the Blu-ray Disc release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind: 30th Anniversary Ultimate Edition, coming Nov. 13 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Warner Home Video seems to have an impressive roster of top catalog releases planned for high-def this fall, with the studio reportedly prepping next-gen versions of its blockbuster 'Harry Potter' and 'Ocean's Eleven' series for Blu-ray and HD DVD.

At least, that's according to a new article over at Video Business focusing on the diverse high-def catalog plans of the major studios. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced it will bring the Halle Berry-Bruce Willis thriller 'Perfect Stranger' to Blu-ray this August.

In another box office misfire for Berry, critics pounced all over 'Perfect Stranger,' and audiences stayed away as well, with the film earning a meager $25 million domestic gross.

Already plotting its 2008 next-gen release schedule, Warner Home Entertainment today revealed plans to bring the Oscar-winning classics 'Amadeus' and 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' to Blu-ray and HD DVD early next year.

As reported by Home Media Retailing, the news comes as part of an announcement by the studio that they have just signed a five-year renewal of their long-standing distribution pact with Saul Zaentz, the famed producer behind 'Amadeus' and 'Cuckoo's Nest.'

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced they will bring the supernatural blockbuster 'Ghost' to Blu-ray and HD DVD on July 24.

The surprise hit of 1990, the Patrick Swayze-Demi Moore romantic thriller scared up nearly $200 million in domestic box office alone, as well as earning multiple Academy Award nominees including Best Picture (and a Best Supporting Actress win for co-star Whoopi Goldberg).
